Beautiful and complex detailed German hand-carved Calvary group in polychromed wood.
Depicting a Crucified Jesus Christ looking down at the worshipper with a calm but sad expression despite the suffering together with 2 supporting figures in mourning stance which are: At his right, the Virgin of sorrows and at his left St. John Evangelist.
19th Century, Baroque style.
It is worth to mention the expressiveness of the faces, in particular the one from Jesus Christ himself.
There is a text written on the back but unable to translate, buyer may find a bit of extra history if he/she decides to investigate further this unique piece.
The group probably comes from the private chapel of an aristocratic family.
Wear and tear present according to its age, some polychrome worn off, St. John's praying hands missing. As seen detailed in the pictures.
