Stunning Silver .950 gilded Box, from Paris, France, made in the early 19th Century, around 1820

The maker of this box is Claude Louis Jonquoy(maker mark C.J.with a crown and one crescent above and two bellow).
He was a silversmith specializing in snuffboxes, and registered six marks between 1818/19 and 1846 (when the mark was changed), the last being cancelled on 2 Feb 1849, when he retired and was succeeded by Edme Picard.
His father, Claude Jonquoy, a tablettiere, was a victim of the Terror, guillotined on 28 thermidor an II [14 Aug 1794].

Other hallmarks: "Vieillard" first standard mark (950 silver, fineness Paris),the "Masque" , Parisian medium guarantee, and Bigorne . This Hallmarks were used between 1818-1838. (please check pictures for details of hallmarks)

The box is also hallmarked with "the greek women's head and P",this hallmark was introduced by Association des Orfévres (a new Association of silversmiths) during French Revolution (The silversmiths guilds was abolished in March 1791, and all tools and precious metals were confiscated) decided to introduce two new punches with a Greek woman's head. (not officially, and have no guarantee value) . The one with letter P was used in 1793. But is a known fact this hallmark was found on various objects in different period of time, and used maybe/actually as "test" punch when objects were in progress.

Dimensions: Length 7.3 cm, Width 4.3 cm, Height 1.8 cm, Weight: 94 g.

Condition: In good condition despite the age, no dents, no visible scratches, please check pictures for condition of the box.
